Today we kept working on our Natureground study. We sketched cone flowers. We also kept working on our Smarties graphing project and our All About Me posters. In gym we kept training for the Terry Fox run and then we played little chicks. Evelyn's brother was at the playground so he joined in!
Yesterday we made a team goal to be ready to listen more quickly. We did a good job working on that goal today. We were successful because we gave each other reminders about the goal, we made better seating choices and didn't sit beside people we often talk to, and we made sure to keep our eyes pointed on the speaker. Well done!
Please remember Parent-Teacher conferences are on Thursday and Friday. We are also excited about the Book Fair!

Sept. 21
Today we started our new after recess routine. We will be doing 15 minutes of solo booktime after recess everyday. Some of us are ready to read books all by ourselves and the grade 2's are even reading chapter books! For those of us who are just learning how to read we are learning to read the pictures and to go on word-hunts to find the words that we can read. We had inside gym today. We played snowman tag and hotdog tag.
Today we did really great work but we ran out of time to complete some of our projects because it took us quite awhile to get ready and organized. Our team goal for tomorrow is to get ready to listen quickly and to keep our eyes on the speaker. We know we can do it!

Today was Fresh Air Friday!
We had 3 stations that we got to try today.
Station #1: Planting Bulbs
Before we started planting we loosened the soil and pulled out the grasses, roots, and weeds. Then we learned how to dig a hole that was 15cm deep. We used rulers to measure the holes. Then we got to plant 5 bulbs in each hole. We found worms, ants, and some other insects while we were digging.
A great big thank you to Jung, Kelli, Jennifer, and Xun for coming to help us out and a big thank you to Claire's family for donating the bulbs!
Station #2: Natureground Sketching
We discovered some hare fur while we were sketching in the Natureground. We noticed that insects were attracted to the Goldenrod. There are still some wasps in the Natureground but we were careful to avoid them. We saw grasshoppers and other insects that are living in the Natureground. We have a lot of plants that are still growing and quite a few flowers still in bloom.
Station #3: Whispering Signs Hunt
We searched all over the Whispering Woods and found lots of signs. The big Whispering Woods sign was the hardest to find because it was so far away. We also had trouble finding the "Z" sign because it was hiding in the amphitheatre! While we were hunting for signs we found a Pocket Gopher burrow. While Julia and Haotian were looking at the burrow the gopher peeked out to see them!

Today we continued training for the Terry Fox Run by running 3 laps of the field. We also had library and we finished up the stitching on our Flower Power project.
We had our first fire drill this afternoon. We talked about fire drill expectations. The expectations are:
1. Quietly line up at the classroom door.
2. Walk quietly to our safe spot outside.
3. Wait for the "All Clear" bell.
We are excited for the Welcome Back BBQ tonight!
Don't forget tomorrow is Fresh Air Friday. We will be working in the Natureground, Whispering Woods, and at the front of the school. Please dress for the weather. If any parents would like to join us tomorrow we will be starting our work outside at approx. 9:45.

This round the topic for sharing is books. When it is your turn to be the helper please bring your favourite book to share with the class. Ms. Boyer will read your story to the class at the end of the day. Our helper tomorrow will be Teagan.
Other exciting news today was that we got to see a picture of Ms. Coulson's new baby!
A great big thank you to our Room 2 friends Isabel, Jessica, Evelyn, Claire, David, Eiman, Ellie, and Pania, who helped to collect garbage during their recess time. That was a GREAT idea!
(p.s Some Room 1 friends also helped collect garbage. Thanks to Chelsea, Freya, Inga, Saorsie, Hailey, and Julia.)

Sept. 14
What a rainy day! Please remember to bring your raincoats and rain boots on rainy days. Some of us had very wet feet!
Today we had music with Mrs. Lim. We played the button game and we sang a snail song. We had gym class inside because of the rain. We played tag and freeze dance. We also warmed up with some exercises.
We worked on our journals this morning. We do this at the start of every week. We worked on making our birthday graphs in math and then we worked on our All About Me posters this afternoon.
Important Info: We are going to be planting bulbs this Friday. If you have your security clearance completed and would like to come help out please let Ms. Boyer know.
