Highlights:
- We got to play ringette. After some drills to practice stick and ring handling we got to play a game! Since we had so much practice with floor hockey it was not too difficult to pick up the skills of ringette. Trying to get the ring was a bit of a challenge so we adapted the game to where you were not allowed to move your feet after getting the ring - this forced us to pass the ring to our teammates.
- For word work the grade 2s started their poetry reading and writing while the grade 1s learned about the letter P and R.
- We had more students share about their family traditions:
1. "every time we get a real Christmas tree we slice off the bottom inch of the trunk. Then my mom and I turn it into an ornament. Then we put a word on it which had significant meaning that year. This year we put Legoland on the ornament."
2. The red Chinese knot is used to wish good luck and a happy life for the Lunar New Year.
3. "Our family tradition is to visit a the Farfar tree. In the summer we water the tree and in the winter we put Christmas ornaments on it."
- We ended our week by building snow villages at the bottom of the Whispering Woods. We decorated them with berries, twigs, skipping rope and rocks.
"We made a little house with a stick in the middle."
"We are picking Wild Rose Hip berries to decorate our village."
"We made a bridge then it turned into a tunnel. We used a cup on a stick to make a flag."
"We made a snow tunnel for a large city."
"We built a snow castle and a village with a statute and a mayor."
"We built a city."
"We got large branches to fence of the snow city. We also made 20 towers."
"I go to every fire with sticks."
