Today we got back to some of our regular routines like guided reading and library. When it wasn't our turn at guided reading we also worked to finish up our journals from yesterday and then we got to choose a center. After centers and guided reading we worked to finish our Whispering Woods paintings. Many of us are finished and will be ready to put our books together tomorrow.
After recess we did wordwork. The grade 1's are trying to do a spelling test to see how many little words they can spell by themselves. We are doing really well, especially since this is our first time trying a test! After wordwork we had math. The grade 1's were finished their counting by 2's project so they did Mathletics with Mrs. Hamby. The grade 2's project is a bit more challenging so they needed another day. Before the grade 2's were invited to go on Mathletics they had to finish their counting by 2's cards, play 2 more rounds of the game, and then recite the odd and even counting by 2's patterns to Ms. Boyer without using their cards. If they could do both patterns they were invited to play Mathletics.
This afternoon we continued working on our Inuit history books by adding more items to the tools page. Levi took on yesterday's home challenge and brought in a picture of a snow knife. He told us that a snow knife can be made from bone, antler, or metal and is used to cut snow blocks for making igloos. He also told us that snow knives are sometimes used for digging up berries or for storytelling. Thank you Levi!
Next, it was time for library. We each got to sign out new books. If you happen to have any library books at home that didn't get returned before the break please bring them in soon. After library we went to gym. Today was our first day of volleyball.
We ended the day by learning about the new center choices that will start tomorrow. The new centers are: Readers theatre, counting feet, and spelling. Ask me about these new choices!
Tomorrow our helper is: Addison (we ran out of time for Addison's sharing today so she gets another turn tomorrow. Thanks for being so understanding Addison!)
Thank you to everyone who remembered to bring in their container for the ice village today. If you have not brought in your container please try to bring it tomorrow.
