Winter Walk Day

We started today with guided reading and centers. Our center today was a finishing up center for everyone. The finishing up job was to try to finish our Inuit History books. We will be working to get these done for the next few days and then we will be invited to start a new center. Then we went on our Winter Walk. We walked the Terry Fox Lap but with a detour through the Whispering Woods.

After recess we did wordwork. The grade 1's started practicing their new words for this week and have put their word for the last two weeks in their backpacks. It would be a good idea to keep practicing these sightwords at home.  The grade 2's are working on building words using a set of letters. They are trying to figure out a secret word.

In math we started a temperature problem. The problem was:

The temperature on planet Ookpik is usually 8C. But the temperature has been rising by 10C everyday. What will the temperature be after 10 days? How about after 20 days? How about after 50 days? We will be working to finish this problem next week.  PLEASE DON'T SOLVE THIS PROBLEM AT HOME, WE WANT TO TRY TO DO IT ON OUR OWN NEXT WEEK.

Home challenge:
Once upon a time we had a Chinook. At the start the temperature was -12C. On the first day of the Chinook, the temperature rose by 5C. On the second day the temperature rose by 8C, On the third day the temperature rose by twice as much as it did on the second day. What was the temperature at the end of the third day?

This afternoon we worked on our Arctic Buddies. We had to finish dressing up our Buddies so they are ready for testing. We were doing a great job following our plans and using the fasteners to make sure everything was secure. After that we went to library.

In gym today we continued with gymnastics. We got to try out the rest of the stations today. Next week we will be working on making up some routines to share.
