Week 4

Highlights:
  • Today, we had the opportunity to go into Mrs. S's class and meet the grade 5 and 6 students at our school. They are going to be our big buddies! They took us outside to go running and practice the Terry Fox route so that we know where to run on Friday!
  • We also had a special visitor: Mrs. Polski!

  • Mrs. Polski came to read us the story about Orange Shirt Day. It was about a girl that went to a residential school. At residential school, the girl was lonely and she felt that nobody was listening to her. Many things were taken away from her, including her orange shirt. Many people had to go to Residential school in Canada lost their language and understandings about their own cultures. So, Orange Shirt Day is a day for us to remember those children who went to residential schools and know how important it is to respect and care for everyone's differences and make sure we don't do something like this again in the future. We learned that we need to care for everyone. Every child matters.
  • In math we created bar graphs for our "Yes/No" graphs! We started by drawing the x- and y- axis in pencil then outlining it in marker. On the x-axis we put the "Yes" and "No" bars. On the y-axis we put numbers. Then we used the data from our "Yes/No" Survey to show it on the bar graph.

  • We have also been learning about Flexible Thinking this week! Superflex, which is a "Social Thinking" hero was introduced to us to teach us about different ways of thinking. Ask us about some of the "villains" in this story! We are all trying to be like Superflex and think and act in positive ways.
