Today we were introduced to new morning centers. We will have the opportunity to explore some creative writing with comic strip templates and story writing. There are also math bingo centers to practice numbers, addition, and subtraction.
We also continued our work on our prairie poems. Some people started editing their poems by correcting upper and lower case letters and spelling. Others continued with their sketches.
For word work, the grade 1s furthered their learning of the "-at" word family from yesterday by identifying and highlighting "-at" words in their word books. Grade 2s learned about the "-ed" word-endings and went on an "-ed" hunt in their reading books. We will continue with this throughout the week.
For gym, our basketball skill was passing. After warming up with drills of running, jumping and pivoting, we worked with different partners to throw chest passes. It was tricky as most of us were used to under hand throws. We learned to use both hands and snap at the finish when passing, and keeping "soft hands" when receiving the ball. We then played a game of Monkey in the Middle to practice our passing skills.
A reminder: Special helper for tomorrow (Wednesday, Jan. 9) is Lily. Please remember to bring your favorite stuffy, toy or action figure :)
