This morning we continued with our story writing. Today we started adding in our events. Our goal is to make events that build the excitement for our reader as the story goes along. Ask me about the first event that happens in my story.
After recess we had a little bit of time to go on www.abcya.com. We could choose to play word games or math games. The grade 1's had to try the games in the grade 2 section (since they are almost grade 2's), and the grade 2's had to try game sin the grade 3 section (since they are almost grade 3's).
Then it was time for math. We are working on subtraction in our math groups.
After lunch we read Rosie Revere Engineer and then Ms. Boyer showed us the next step of our building project. We didn't have time to get going on it today but we will be all ready to continue building on Monday.
Then it was time for swimming. It was a little bit chilly walking to the pool but we were great swimmers again today!
Tomorrow is Fresh Air Friday. We will be working on a special indoor project for part of the morning and then we will be weeding and watering in the whispering woods, natureground, and sun circle.

Ice Cream Sundays Here we Come!!!
**Reminder: Swimming tomorrow!**
WE WON!!! WE WON!!! Congratulations to everyone in Room 2 for returning all their library books so quickly. We were the first class to have all of our books returned and we have won an ice cream sunday party!! Our party will take place on June 25 in the afternoon.
Today we continued with our final projects of the year. In the morning we worked on our stories. Today we needed to add our kick-off and the problem. Ask me to tell you how my story goes so far.
After recess we finished our Dr. Coffin timeline and then we went to our math groups.
After lunch we worked on our Calgary buildings. Today some groups were able to finish their framing and other groups will need one or two more days. After the framing is finished we will start working on the walls, windows, roofs, and all the other details.
Then it was time to plant the outdoor garden. We planted potatoes, carrots, beets, and zucchinis. We took turns planting in groups. When we weren't planting we got to make different choices for free gym time.

Long Ago Calgary
** Don't forget! Swimming tomorrow!!**
Today we started with some book time and then we did journals. Today we started thinking about what we might be doing in the summer and some of us chose to write about that in our journals. We checked the calendar and realized we have less than 3 weeks of school!
This morning we started working on the last piece of our Dr. Coffin timeline. This piece is about when adopted the Whispering Woods. We went outside and sketched the Whispering Woods. Tomorrow we will add the colour and glue this last piece on to our timeline!
This afternoon we started our building Calgary long ago project. First, we started by making blueprints. We also made a list of materials. Next time we will build the frames.
In gym Ms. Boyer started to teach us how to juggle. It takes a lot of practice but she showed us the steps to practice so we can learn to do it.

First Day of Swimming!

This morning we continued working on our stories. On Tuesday we each chose our characters and the problem that would happen in the story. Today we planned out the events and how our story will end. Next week we will start writing our stories! Ask me to tell you what I have planned so far.
After recess we had library. In library Mrs. Kidd told us about a contest she will be holding next week: The first class to have ALL their library books returned in preparation for year-end will get an ice cream sunday party!!! Please try to return ALL library books, including the ones you took out today on Monday so we can have a chance at the big prize.
After that we had math. We are continuing our work on addition in all three math groups.
After lunch we had a little bit of time to finish up our Dr. Coffin timelines and then we went to swimming. Our class did really well at the pool! Everyone got changed quickly and listened well to their swimming teachers. Great work Room 2!

Heritage Park!
What a great day at Heritage Park! Here are just a few of the activities we did at the park:
- researching our focus building. Ask me which building my group is researching and will build for our Calgary 1918 model next week.
- train rides
- wagon rides
- visiting animals
- watching a boxing match
- eating snacks from the bakery
- buying candy at the candy store
- eating ice cream
- visiting the historic buildings and finding items for our Heritage Park Bingo game.
- playing at the park

Tomorrow is our first day of swimming. Please remember to bring your swimsuit and your towel in a bag that is easy to carry to the pool. Swimming goggles are optional. Most students find it is easier to have their swimming things in a dedicated bag, rather than loose in their backpack (preferably not a plastic grocery bag that will fall apart on the walk). Many students also find that they are very hungry after swimming so including a small snack that they can eat on the walk back to school is also very helpful.

New Projects and Heritage Park Tomorrow!
Today was bike to school day! Congratulations to all our Room 2 students who rode their bikes today!
Today we started two new projects that we will be working on until the end of the year. The first one is a final story writing project. This morning we read 3 different folktales and talked about ways we could write Nose Hill versions of those stories. Then each of us chose a story we wanted to re-tell and began creating a story map. Ask me what kind of story I am going to write and the characters I have chosen so far!
In math we continued focusing on adding and subtracting in our math groups.
This afternoon we did some research for our final social studies project. The question for this project is: What was Calgary like 100 years ago? Yesterday we did some brainstorming about things we thought might have existed in Calgary 100 years ago. We created an "I Think..." chart with a buddy. Today we went to the Glenbow Museum Photography Archives and did some research to see if our theories were true. Ask me about the things I discovered about Calgary today.
Tomorrow is our field trip to Heritage Park! The weather forecast looks great but please be prepared for Calgary's unpredictable weather. Heritage Park is an outdoor field trip and we need to be prepared to be outside for most of the day. Please make sure you have applied sunscreen before coming to school and bring a hat with you. Your backpack should include your lunch, an extra snack, a small waterbottle, and any extra clothing you want to have (please leave toys, books etc. at home). Students are also invited to bring a small amount of money if they would like to buy something small from the bakery, candy store, or ice cream shop.

Kitatama'sino
Today was our last day working with Saa'Kokoto for this year. Today we talked with him about all the gifts that come from Na'a and he told us another story. At the end of the day we reflected on all the teachings he had told us this year and thought about the things we have learned. Here are a few of the ideas we came up with:
Katie - It is important to be kind.
Lawrence - To respect other people so they will respect you.
Joachim - To be generous. When people don't have treat day money I can give them some.
Aiden - Na'a means mother nature and love.
Josie - That almost everything comes from Na'a.
Aksel - He had really great stories.
Addison - Treat others like you want to be treated.
Taylor - There are 4 stages of life. Baby, Kid, Adult, Grandma or Grandpa.
Dhvani - Never to leave your family behind.
Leander - There is a root that tastes like black licorice.
Shawn - Mother nature is called Na'a.
Lily - All his stories tell a teaching.
Liam - Treat others how you want to be treated.
