Look at all those bikes!

What a great turn out today for Bike to School day!

Today we continued with our story writing and started getting ready for our last writing assignment of the year by talking about things we would see on the prairies. We read a prairie story and did some brainstorming in small groups.

In math the grade 1's learned a new domino game and the grade 2's continued working on two-digit addition using ten's rods and one's blocks.

This afternoon in science we wrote a reflection about the boat demonstrations we watched yesterday. We are learning some important strategies for boat building that we will be using next week to build our own boats. Yesterday and today we focused on strategies for stability. We looked at catamarans, outriggers, and keels. Tomorrow we will start exploring strategies for making boats that can move. At home, please start collecting supplies that you could use for making your own boat next week. Many items that end up in the recycling bin can make great boats such as plastic containers, milk cartons, pop cans etc. Wooden skewers, straws, elastic bands, and tin foil are also very helpful supplies.

Two Volunteer Requests:
1. This Friday is sports day. We are looking for some parent volunteers to help us run stations. If you are available please email Ms. Boyer.

2. Next Wednesday afternoon we are hoping to head out into the community to finally paint the yellow fish on the storm drains as the final piece to our environmental science study of human impacts. In order to make this successful we are looking for at least 5 volunteers from Room 2. If you are available please email Ms. Boyer or speak to our room parent, Marie.
