April 3

Highlights:
  • In science, we learned that heat moves in three ways - conduction, convection and radiation.
    • conduction is when heat moves directly from one object to another - like when cooking pancakes by using heat from a heated pan
    • convection is when heat travels because of movement of molecules in fluids - like when steam cooks food
    • radiation is when heat moves into something - such as flames roasting a marshmallow
  • Also, we learned that heat, NOT cold, moves, and heat always rises.
  • We also learned that heat will radiate through glass whereas heat will be conducted through metal - so if you use a glass pan brownies will cook faster, and if you use a metal pan brownies will take longer to cook.
  • We created new "communities" within the classroom - each community has been set into rows because the class thought it would be a good way to help reduce distractions. We voted and the majority (more than half of the class) decided to make this move. Each community made promises to each other - some of the promises include: to not bully and protect each other, to read quietly when it is reading time, to help each other understand stuff, to not yell out, to not distract each other, to be quiet and not chat when working.
