June 18

Highlights:
  • In math we moved onto finding the area of our desks with the blocks. 
  • But, we ran into another math problem in the process - we ran out of blocks to fill the area, so we had to figure out how to find the area if you do not have enough blocks to fill up the desk..
    • one group came up with the strategy to draw a line around the inside of the blocks, then count the blocks on the outside. Then, move them into the middle to fill up that space and count it again. Afterwards, they added all the blocks used.
    • Another group figured out that you can count the number of blocks for the length, and add that number up as many times as there are blocks in the width. We ended up using a calculator because there were so many numbers to add up. 
    • Others thought of the strategy to "join forces" with another group to combine their blocks and count them all together!
