Highlights:
- Math- the students who went to the portables took 20 blocks and split them up into 2 groups then estimated how many blocks are in each group - trying to figure out different addition sentences to make the sum of 20. Students who went to room 1, played a game with dominos to match numbers within a time limit. Students who stayed in room 2 learned about place value (ones, tens and hundreds) using base ten blocks, then had figure out the numbers using a set of given blocks and drew the blocks from given numbers.
- Word Work- the grade 1s did sentence dictation (Mrs. Yoon read out a sentence and the students had to record all the words they heard). The grade 2s were silent reading, creating Mad Libs, or finishing up Arctic Collection (paper bag).
- Social Studies - we learned about Acadia and found on the Canadian map where the Acadians first settled when they arrived. Meteghan was a community where many of the Acadians found their home. Then we filled in a map that identified where Nova Scotia was. We are focusing on the community of Meteghan. Nova Scotia is a Peninsula (land that is surrounded by water but attached to a larger body of land - this is not an island).
